Follow this blog from time to time as Sarah and Derek (Rachel and Dena both did 1,000 mile legs of the trip) add updates of their cross-the-country-on-bicycles-tour, starting July 2nd, 2007 in Davis, CA, and ending in Virginia. They will miss their families, friends, home-grown fruits and veggies, worms, bees, and co-op dinners as they embark on this 2-3 month bicycle trip, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity they will surely enjoy!

Well, actually I'm still looking for a legitimate touring bike for riding 4,200 miles. I've been checking Craig's List often for a used bike but haven't been too successful with that. This Thursday, June 14th, I will be visiting my high school buddy, dad, brother, and grandma for a week and a half in Los Angeles and be looking there for a bike. I'm taking the train back to Davis on Tuesday, June 26th so hopefully I arrive with a better bike situation.
The plan so far for Rachel, Sarah, and me is to have a little meditation hour in the morning of Sunday, July 1st, then have a final planning meeting to collect all our belongings and food for the trip, and to follow that up with a mellow going-away gathering that night at the co-ops.
We are going to leave on our 3 month voyage the morning of Monday, July 2nd, headed northbound to Oregon!

Saves having to put training wheels on a bigger bike...
Good luck to all 3 of you.
Have fun and be careful.
